The Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) is urging residents to take precautions against mosquito bites as the state experiences heightened activity of the West Nile Virus (WNV). As of September 4, 2025, there have been 11 reported cases of WNV in Wyoming, with six individuals suffering from severe illness and one tragic fatality linked to the virus.
"We are still seeing a lot of WNV activity in Wyoming," a health official stated, emphasizing the importance of awareness and prevention measures. Mosquitoes, particularly during the warmer months, are known carriers of the virus, which can lead to serious health complications in some individuals.
Residents are advised to use insect repellent, wear long sleeves and pants when outdoors, and eliminate standing water around their homes to reduce mosquito breeding grounds. The WDH continues to monitor the situation closely and encourages the community to remain vigilant to protect themselves and their families from potential infections.
