Manipal Health Enterprises Stock Prices Surge 11% After $975 Million India IPO

The hospital operator Manipal Health Enterprises saw its stock price climb more than 11 percent in its market debut on Wednesday, capping off a successful initial public offering that raised close to $975 million. The strong opening makes it the second-largest IPO in India this year, trailing only behind a few major listings in the country's booming capital markets.

Shares opened at 410 rupees apiece, a notable premium over the issue price of 370 rupees, before extending gains during the morning trading session. The company, which runs a network of hospitals across India, attracted strong demand from both domestic and foreign institutional investors. The offering was oversubscribed multiple times, reflecting growing confidence in the country's private healthcare sector.

Proceeds from the IPO will be used to pay down existing debt, fund expansion of new hospitals, and support general corporate purposes. The listing comes at a time when India's healthcare industry is seeing increased consolidation and a push toward higher-quality tertiary care facilities. Analysts noted that the company's strong brand recognition and focus on metro and tier-two cities helped drive investor interest.

The successful float also signals sustained appetite for large healthcare listings, even as broader markets show some volatility. Manipal Health's debut follows a string of other medical firms going public this year, as investors look for long-term growth stories in the sector. The company's management said it plans to add more beds and specialty centers over the next few years, aiming to capture a larger share of the growing demand for advanced medical treatment in India.
