SAN ANTONIO - People in the San Antonio area who have trouble paying for insulin can now get some relief. The city's Metro Health department has teamed up with H-E-B again to restart an assistance program that helps residents afford this life-saving medication.
The program is available starting today. It aims to serve people who either do not have insurance or whose insurance does not cover insulin costs fully. With the price of insulin remaining a heavy burden for many families, this partnership offers a way to get the medicine at a lower cost or even for free, depending on a person's situation.
To qualify, residents need to meet certain income guidelines and provide proof of their prescription. The program is not open to everyone, but it targets those who are most in need. Officials from Metro Health said they want to make sure no one in the community has to skip doses or ration their insulin because they cannot afford it.
H-E-B, the Texas-based grocery and pharmacy chain, has been a key partner in this effort. The company will help supply the insulin through its pharmacies. People who think they might qualify are encouraged to contact Metro Health or visit a participating H-E-B pharmacy to learn more about the application process.
This is not a new idea. The program ran before and helped many people. Now it is back, and local leaders hope it will reach even more residents who are struggling. For anyone worried about the cost of insulin, this could be a real help.
