Starting this fall, UNT Health Fort Worth will introduce a new doctoral program in pharmaceutical sciences, marking the first of its kind in North Texas. University officials say the initiative arrives at a pivotal moment for the region, as the life sciences and research and development sectors experience rapid expansion.
The program aims to train researchers and specialists who can fill critical workforce gaps in drug development, biotechnology, and clinical research. With major investments flowing into the area's biomedical infrastructure, local leaders have pointed to a growing need for advanced expertise in pharmaceutical science.
"North Texas is becoming a hub for innovation in health and medicine," a university spokesperson said. "This program is designed to prepare graduates for high-demand roles in both academic and industry settings."
The curriculum will cover areas such as drug discovery, pharmacokinetics, and translational research. Students will have access to state-of-the-art laboratories and opportunities to collaborate with regional health institutions and biotech firms.
Applications are now open for the inaugural cohort, with classes set to begin in the fall semester.
