Honolulu - The state Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Commission, part of the Department of Land and Natural Resources, is preparing a series of workshops focused on soil health and agricultural resilience. The program, called CASH4Aina, which stands for Conservation Agriculture and Soil Health for Aina, will travel to islands across the state in the coming months.
The initiative is designed to help farmers, ranchers and landowners adopt practices that build healthier soil and make their operations more resistant to climate pressures. Organizers say the workshops will cover practical, on-the-ground techniques rather than abstract theory, giving participants tools they can apply directly to their land.
Soil degradation and erosion have long been concerns for island agriculture, and increasingly erratic rainfall patterns have added urgency to the issue. Healthier soil holds more water, supports stronger crops and can reduce runoff that damages reefs and coastal waters. The commission sees the workshops as a way to connect growers with expertise and with each other.
Dates and locations for the sessions are still being finalized. Those interested in taking part are encouraged to watch for announcements from the commission in the weeks ahead. The effort reflects a broader push to weave climate adaptation into everyday farming decisions across Hawaii.
