A multi-state recall of cottage cheese products is underway due to potential health risks. The affected items were distributed to retailers in 24 states and were available for purchase between February 17 and February 20, 2026.
The recall was initiated after routine testing indicated the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes, a harmful bacterium. Consumption of food contaminated with this organism can cause serious, and sometimes fatal, infections in young children, elderly individuals, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
Consumers who have purchased the specified cottage cheese products are urged not to consume them. The items should be discarded immediately or returned to the place of purchase for a full refund. Authorities emphasize that no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall to date, but the action is being taken as a stringent precautionary measure.
Retailers are in the process of removing the products from store shelves. Officials advise anyone concerned about potential illness to contact their healthcare provider. The recall highlights the importance of food safety protocols and swift regulatory action to protect public health.
