FDA says it’s still investigating Taylor Farms in cyclosporiasis outbreak

FDA says it’s still investigating Taylor Farms in cyclosporiasis outbreak

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has clarified that a false-positive lab result does not alter the "overwhelming epidemiological data" pointing to Taylor Farms as the source of a cyclosporiasis outbreak. In a recent update, the agency stressed that its investigation into the company remains active despite the testing anomaly.

Officials explained that while one specific sample from Taylor Farms products initially tested positive for Cyclospora, follow-up tests proved it was a false alarm. However, this does not change the broader pattern seen across multiple states. Health investigators have traced dozens of illnesses back to produce supplied by the company, with the majority of patients reporting consumption of Taylor Farms items before falling sick.

The FDA is now working to confirm the exact contaminated product and supply chain point. Cyclosporiasis, a parasitic intestinal infection, causes watery diarrhea, cramping, and fatigue, and can last weeks if untreated. The agency advises consumers who have purchased Taylor Farms products to check for recalls and to seek medical care if symptoms develop.

No new recalls have been issued since the initial pull, but the FDA warns that additional actions may follow as lab work continues. The outbreak has sickened at least 80 people across several states, with hospitalizations reported. Investigators are also reviewing whether other brands or distributors received contaminated ingredients from the same source.
