Survey Shows the Lengths Pet Parents Go to for Their Dogs' Health

A recent survey of more than 2,000 dog owners and 50 veterinary professionals across the United States set out to understand how far people will go to keep their pets healthy. The findings suggest that many owners treat their dogs less like animals and more like full members of the family, often putting the pet's needs ahead of their own comfort and convenience.

According to the results, a large share of dog parents said they would change their daily routines, adjust their budgets, or sacrifice personal time to make sure their dogs receive proper care. Some reported cooking special meals, rearranging work schedules for vet visits, and losing sleep to monitor a pet's condition. Veterinary professionals who took part in the survey noted that owners are increasingly asking detailed questions about nutrition, preventive care, and long-term wellness, rather than waiting for a problem to become serious.

The survey also highlighted a gap between what owners believe they know and what vets recommend. While most respondents felt confident about their dogs' health, professionals pointed to common blind spots such as weight management, dental care, and the importance of regular checkups. Still, the overall picture was one of deep commitment. For many households, spending on a dog's health is no longer seen as an extra expense but as a standard part of caring for a family member.
