The University of Maryland is broadening a reproductive health initiative with more than $16 million in state grant funds spread across five years. The investment builds on earlier work that has already trained over 100 clinicians, students and other health professionals in abortion care.
The expanded program aims to deepen the pool of qualified providers across the state and strengthen training opportunities for those entering reproductive health fields. Organizers say the funding will support instruction, clinical experience and mentorship for participants at various stages of their careers.
Supporters of the effort describe it as a practical response to growing demand for skilled reproductive health practitioners in Maryland and the surrounding region. The program's previous phase demonstrated that structured training can prepare clinicians to deliver abortion care safely and effectively, and the new funding is expected to extend that reach to more students and practicing professionals.
Details on enrollment timelines and partner institutions are expected to be released as the program moves into its next phase.
