The Richland County Foundation Board of Trustees has approved grants totaling $1,477,004.99 to nonprofit organizations during its October meeting.
The board signed off on competitive and field of interest fund grants for four organizations. The Community Health Access Project received funding to strengthen care coordination services for residents who are uninsured or underinsured in Richland County.
The grants target two of the community's most pressing needs: access to health care and stable housing. Foundation leaders said the funding reflects a deliberate focus on programs that address the root causes of poor health outcomes, including the lack of safe and affordable places to live.
Housing-related grants will support organizations working to repair substandard homes, assist residents facing eviction and expand options for families struggling to find affordable units. Health grants will help clinics and outreach programs reach patients who often fall through the cracks, including those without insurance coverage.
Trustees noted that the October round of funding drew strong interest from local nonprofits, with requests outpacing available dollars. The foundation reviews applications against community needs assessments and looks for measurable results.
Officials said the grants are expected to fund services over the coming year, with recipients reporting on outcomes as the work progresses. The foundation encourages organizations with housing and health projects to watch for future funding cycles.
